Abstract

|
The nephrotic syndrome has been considered a hypercoagulable state since it may be complicated by thromboembolic events of the venous or the arterial circulation. Diverse pathogenetic factors leading to the hypercoagulable state in nephrotic syndrome have been recognized.
We experienced a case of minimal change nephrotic syndrome complicated by the pulmonary thromboembolism presenting sudden chest pain, hemoptysis during the steroid and diuretic therapy. The patient was nearly bed ridden due to severe generalized edema showing marked hemoconcentration, thrombocytosis, hypoalbuminema and the episode of hypovolemic crisis at the onset of pulmonary thromboembolism.
